Poet and Author C.B. Schultz

This week’s Writer Wednesday is Candice Berry Schultz from Farmington Hills, Michigan! Candice is a poet, author and financial planner. When the pandemic hit he began to write, first about close friends and family, then about deeper contradictions and questions. Poetry became a way to connect with people she could see only on video screens or photographs.

Candice wrote “SEE: Perspective Poetry” during the height of the pandemic, and her work will be released this December. The collection of 27 poems explores how we look at the world, what gets in the way and what holds us back.

We’re excited to host her virtual book launch Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. EST. The first 15 people who register receive free admission. Sign up here.

What is your favorite part of the writing process?

It always seems to be evolving as I am with it.

What does your writing workspace look like?

It’s everywhere. When it comes to my mind I start writing it down. But I secretly love writing at night, outside in nature or in my sunroom.

What was it like for you to write a poetry book?

It changed my life, it brought me so much joy. More than I ever would have imagined. I felt truly inspired, and it was and still is an amazing experience.

What is your favorite non-writing hobby?

Funny … playing poker or card games.

What is your favorite piece of writing advice?

Don’t wait till later, when an idea comes try to go with it at that time or get it down if you can.

What writing projects are you currently working on?

I am almost done with my second poetry book of the “SEE” volume. The third book is about one-third done. I am also working on a book about money and our relationship with money.

Hopefully not your traditional financial book but bridging back how wellness and wealth come together as a whole, mind body and spirit. I have been a financial advisor for 20-plus years, and I believe some of my poetry will come to life in this book as well!
