Detroit Writing Room FAQs
I’m not a writer. Can I still work at The Detroit Writing Room?
Yes! We welcome anyone who’d like to work in a quiet, distraction-free workspace! There is no application to become a member or use the space. As of September 2021, we are requiring all Writer Wednesday members to be fully vaccinated. See all services here.
Where do I park?
Check out our handy parking guide here.
Can I bring my pet?
We love furry friends, but kindly ask to leave them at home so we can maintain a distraction-free workspace.
Can I bring food to eat?
Absolutely! Our fridge is here for you to use to store lunch or snacks. We also recommend the eatery La Pecora Nera below The Detroit Writing Room. (They have great sandwiches and salads!)
Is coffee included?
You bet. There’s no better fuel for writing.
Can I bring my children?
Co-working and workshops are for adults only. Teens may attend our workshops with parental permission.
Do you charge for printing?
Printing comes with your membership. However, if you need to print an entire novel or longer work, there will be a small fee.
Do you offer refunds?
We do not refund tickets for workshops or events. Coaching sessions may be rescheduled up to 24 hours in advance. If you do not show up to a coaching session, there is a $40 no-show fee.
Coaching Session FAQs
How long are coaching sessions?
Sessions are hourly. You can sign up for more than one hour at a time. Coaching sessions take place 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. We have both virtual and in-person options.
How much are coaching sessions?
Sessions are $75 for non-members or $50 for members. See all membership options here.
How do I sign up for coaching?
You can see all coaches at detroitwritingroom.com/coaches. Select the coach you’d like, then pick a time that suits your schedule! We also have a New York-based team of coaches who can meet you virtually. Check out The New York Writing Room coaches.
Where do I meet the coach?
In-person coaching sessions take place at The Detroit Writing Room in downtown Detroit. You can also book a virtual coaching session and meet a coach from anywhere! Note: All coaching sessions are scheduled in Eastern Standard Time.
How do I submit my work to a coach?
Once you sign up for a coaching session, you will receive an email confirmation. Please reply to that email and attach your work. Please submit your work at least 48 hours before your session so the coach has enough time to review it.
How many pages can I send a coach to review?
Coaches will review works under 20 pages. They will then give feedback and recommendations during your coaching session. If you want an entire manuscript reviewed, or are seeking copy editing services, please email hello@detroitwritingroom.com for a custom quote.
I’m not sure which coach to choose. Can you help?
We’d love to! Email stephanie@detroitwritingroom.com. Please describe your work and what you’d like help with. Stephanie will give you a few coach recommendations!
