Writer and Yoga Instructor Lisa Kasle

This week’s Writer Wednesday features writer and yoga instructor Lisa Kasle!

Based in Birmingham, Michigan, Lisa is working on various projects that showcase her love for storytelling, including a whimsical cat adventure and a vegan, gluten-free cookbook. When she’s not writing, she’s teaching yoga and nurturing her creative spirit.

Read more about Lisa, a new DWR member, below!

What writing projects are you currently working on?

I’m working on four COMPLETELY different books: “Jake and Me, Angry and Mad” (possible title, about the struggles of an undiagnosed boy on the autistic spectrum and his mother’s experiences raising him); “JoJo Cat - Ambassador of Love,” about the escapades of a cat who appears to be the mayor of a city, called Birmingham!; a “Vegan, Gluten Free Cookbook,” plain and simple recipes that I created and compiled for my daughters, and have not passed it on to them yet; and “Angel Skin,” how to take care of your face in times of too many choices and too few practitioners’ concern for your actual skin and more for their own wallets. I am currently flipping back and forth mainly between the first two above.

What is your favorite part of the writing process?

My favorite part is wordsmithing; I love to play with and use words that play on the actual meaning/points that I'm attempting to convey. I enjoy wordy Wordsworth weirdly wordly words.  I have fun speaking them and writing them.

What does your writing workspace look like?

I drop and write wherever I can and whenever I am able, which is not often enough. I write in fits and starts. I am attempting to find a structured workspace without other people around me, which I’m hoping will lead to a pattern of organization as it pertains to my time, as well.

When did you first discover your love for writing? Were there any key moments or influences that sparked your passion?

When I was three years old I was known as the family storyteller! I guess the constant comments about all of my varied storytelling extravaganzas, focus here on the stravaganzas — lol — encouraged me to grow into a real raconteur!

What is your favorite non-writing hobby?

YOGA! Just do it!!!

What is your favorite piece of writing advice?

Writing advice from me!?! I dont think I’m at the writing advisory stage yet! But I’m happy to take YOUR writing advice…
