High school students from the city of Detroit, Metro Detroit and across the country each wrote a story during our virtual journalism camp led by Detroit Writing Room and New York Writing Room coaches.
The students tackled topics from the underfunding of Historically Black Colleges and Universities to gentrification in a New York City neighborhood. Other students wrote about cultural barriers in the Arab, Latino and South Asian communities that have impacted educational opportunities. Many students covered stories about TikTok — from how fashion microtrends have frustrated teenagers to how the app has affected mental health and teen behaviors.
Each student wrote a story they thought was important to tell. We’re excited to share their articles with you below. Order your copy of Perspectives Magazine to read their stories in print!
