We’re excited to introduce Albiona M. Rakipi as our first Writer Wednesday spotlight! Albiona is the founder of the new parenting resource Kiddos and Insights! We had the pleasure of hosting the Kiddos and Insights launch party last week. If you missed it, check out a video recap on our YouTube page.

Albiona is from Livonia, Michigan, and she's working on her first book. Check out her interview below!

What is your favorite part of the writing process?

Personally, the writing process helps me gain clarity and organize my thoughts. Writing allows me to explore and expand on different ideas. Once those ideas take shape, my favorite part is sharing the writing and watching it resonate with others.

What does your writing workspace look like?

It’s very early in the morning, before the sun comes up. I’m sitting on my couch, with a cup of coffee, my laptop, and my dog is always sitting right next to me. I don’t know why, but I can never sit at a desk and write.

What has been your favorite part of Kiddos and Insights so far?

Two things: The response from others who have said they feel seen after reading a story, and watching others use the PARR method (pause, acknowledge, respond, reflect) in their own personal journeys.

What is your favorite non-writing hobby?

Reading and listening to podcasts

What is your favorite piece of writing advice?

It’s tough to choose one so I’ll give you my three favorites:

Seth Godin said to establish a writing practice and commit to it.

In Steven Pressfield’s, “The War of Art,” he explains what resistance is and how to overcome it.

Author Elise Loehnen said to read books that are similar to the themes you write about. This initially scared me because I thought I would lose my own voice while reading others, but the opposite has happened. It’s actually allowed me to carve out my own voice and hone in on that.

What are you looking forward to in the future with Kiddos and Insights?

I'm excited to see where things go. I have had a number of parents express interest in a parent coaching session or sessions. I love the idea of working and connecting with parents, guiding and helping them work through challenges they're facing in their day to day lives.
